Dr. Seuss Snack Ideas for All

When my kiddos were in preschool and elementary, it was a day of dressing up, reading, and fun.

You may be asked to bring an imaginative snack or two inspired by Dr. Seuss and his characters. That’s not a problem, dear friends. Snappy Snacking has Dr. Suess’s snack ideas galore to share with you today.

Green Eggs and Ham

Of course, what would the day be without the beloved meal of green eggs and ham. I must confess that growing up, I thought that both the eggs and the ham were green. That is not the case, just a bit of green food coloring in your scrambled eggs and viola!

Now for the ham, that’s easy, too. Just grab a ham steak or even some thick sliced luncheon meat. Cut it into bite sized pieces for little hands. Presto, chango…You have a classic meal that will create precious memories. 

Ingredients:

  •  Scrambled eggs (4 eggs)
  •  Green food coloring
  •  Sliced ham

Instructions:

  1. Make scrambled eggs using 4 eggs and add green food coloring until desired color is reached.
  2. Serve alongside the ham.    

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cat in the Hat Fruit Skewers

I absolutely love a good party theme. You will be the talk of the PTA (in a good way) with this healthy snack. 

Warning: use toothpicks or snip the end off the wooden skewers. Because accidents aren’t fun!

This Dr.Suess snack idea is super simple, too. But it looks like you got up at 4:00 AM! If you have little hands that want to be a big help, this is the perfect snack. Bonus: This Dr.Suess snack idea will work on eye-hand coordination and following directions—the skills that real life is made of! 

Thread alternating pieces of red strawberries and white marshmallows onto skewers to resemble the iconic hat of the Cat in the Hat.

Ingredients:

  •      Strawberries (1 pint)
  •      Bananas (3 Medium size)
  •      Green Grapes ( 1 for each skewer)
  •      Large Marshmallows (1 bag)
  •      Skewers or toothpicks

Instructions:

  1. Wash strawberries and grapes. Peel the banana
  2. Slice strawberries and bananas.
  3. Place the marshmallow 
  4. Next, Alternate the strawberries and bananas.      
  5. At the end, place one green grape. It keeps them from sliding.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Truffula Tree Pretzel Rods

This Dr. Suess snack idea is a clear winner because it will use the rest of the marshmallows from The Cat in The Hat Fruit Skewers. I love it when a plan comes together, don’t you?

Ingredients:

  • Pretzel rods (1 package)
  • Candy wafer melts in light blue, orange, grinch green, purple, and hot pink
  • Rainbow sprinkles

Instructions:

  1. Melt candy melts according to package instructions.
  2. Put the marshmallows on the pretzel rods to resemble Truffula trees. 
  3. Dip pretzel rods into melted candy melts and sprinkle with rainbow sprinkles.
  4. Place on wax paper to set.

 Prep Time:  20 minutes

One Fish, Two Fish, Goldfish Snack Mix

Now, if you want bonus points, you can serve this snack in a brand new clear fish bowl you bought at a pet supply store. If you need individual servings, you can use small clear cups or bags. Either way, they are going to be a huge hit!

Ingredients:

  • 2 bags of Goldfish crackers 
  • 2 boxes of large, red gummy fish.

Instructions:

  1. Scoop 1 cup of Goldfish crackers into bags or cups for serving.( Or fish bowl)
  2. Add 1 or 2 large, red gummy fish to each serving. 

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Yertle the Turtle Veggie Platter:

For an easy and healthy option you may want to try serving a platter of veggies. You can purchase one already made or make your own. Bonus points if you can buy a watermelon and cut off some to resemble a turtle shell. (You can serve the rest of the watermelon on a platter or in balls.)

Ingredients:

  •  Sliced cucumbers
  •  Snacking carrots
  •  Sliced bell peppers
  •  Watermelon cut to resemble a turtle shell.

Instructions:

  • Wash and slice cucumbers, carrots, and bell peppers.
  • Arrange on a platter to resemble Yertle the Turtle’s shell.
  • Place the watermelon shell in the center of the platter. Arrange sliced cucumbers, carrots, and bell peppers on a platter to create a whimsical veggie display inspired by Yertle the Turtle.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Grinchy Grapes and Sneeches Stars Fruit Platter

Remember the green grapes you have leftover from idea number 2, “The Cat in the Hat” skewers?

And the leftover watermelon from Yertle the Turtle’s shell? Well, here’s another easy-peasy addition to your Dr.Suess snack delights. Slice the watermelon so that you can use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out stars. 

Ingredients:

  • Green grapes
  • Watermelon sliced in about 2 inch thick circles

Instructions:

  1. Wash grapes and serve in the middle of the fruit platter
  2. Cut as many stars as possible out of the watermelon. 
  3. Arrange the stars on the fruit platter around the green grapes.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
